Soda Tax to be voted on in San Francisco and Berkeley

 

It seems that since sales tax, income tax, property tax, and a myriad of other taxes are not enough to fund inflated budgets of the cities of San Franciso and Berkeley, that a proposed sin tax on sodas will be hitting the ballot.

Yes, it is a generally known and accepted fact that high fructose corn syrup sodas are not healthy. Soft drinks are one of the leading causes of diabetes and obesity and are probably best to be avoided.  But should not the decision to consume these products be left up to the individual?  Do the proponents of these taxes really have the best interest of the people at heart, or is this just a case of two cities that are so strapped for cash that they feel the need to target people’s personal choices?
