Are celebrities treated different in DUI cases than non-celebrities?

celebrities treated different in DUI casesWith the rise in DUI cases in America, people are now asking, are celebrities treated different in DUI cases than ordinary people when arrested and charged with a DUI offence?

According to many people who were arrested and lost their license due to being arrested for DUI, celebrities are treated differently.  One prime example many people have pointed to is Justin Bieber. The young singer was arrested and charged with a DUI offence but managed to beat the charges earlier this year.

Justin Bieber was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license, but although the evidence was there, the singer managed to make a plea bargain where the charges were dropped. Although it his right to try and avoid the charges, the question being asked is if Justin Bieber were an ordinary person, would he have received the same result?

Many believe celebrities are treated differently, this could be down to the judge in the case or simply because they can afford a better attorney. Whatever the reason for Justin Bieber walking away with a plea bargain, ordinary people feel the law is one sided when it comes to celebrities.

Justin Bieber is not the only celebrity to beat a DUI charge; many other celebrities have managed to walk away from court with their license. This has frustrated many attorneys’ who believe celebrities should be treated in the same manner as ordinary American people.  Some people believe it is about fame and money, the more fame and money you have, the better attorney you can employ and the softer the judge will be against the celebrity.

If it is true that celebrities are treated differently, should the legal system be looked into to find out why this is happening?
